No longer for private individuals
The controversial weedkiller Roundup will soon disappear from store shelves.
Flemish Minister of Agriculture Joke Schauvliege (CD&V) had already announced earlier that she would ban the use of Roundup by private individuals.
After which federal Minister Borsus announced in the Chamber that he was working on decrees to take the product off the market.
For years it has been claimed that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is carcinogenic.
The American multinational Monsanto is not losing any sleep over the ban! Their main customer is professional agriculture!
Agriculture happily keeps on spraying
Ironically, the ban does not apply to large-scale users such as the NMBS and professional agriculture.
Professional farmers account for 90 percent of Roundup use.
They are simply allowed to keep on spraying the product.
