Do you want to transport dangerous goods by road as a driver?
Then you must obtain the ADR certificate!
The ADR certificate is mandatory for all drivers who transport non-exempt quantities of dangerous goods, regardless of the vehicle's maximum authorised mass.
Obtaining the certificate in three steps:
- Step 1: mandatory basic training. Follow the mandatory basic training ADR – Package transport (3 days) or ADR – Package and tank transport (5 days).
- Step 2: open-book exam. After the training, you take a written open-book exam at the accredited exam centre: Institute for Road Transport and Logistics Belgium (ITLB). Exams always take place on Saturdays, at fixed locations per province.
- Step 3: passed your exam? You then receive your ADR certificate or training certificate from the Institute for Road Transport and Logistics Belgium (ITLB). The ADR certificate or attestation is valid for 5 years and strictly personal. The ITLB sends it against proof of receipt to your home address. ADR stands for Accord européen relatif au transport international de marchandises Dangereuses par Route.
ADR trainings count for up to 14 hours towards professional competence code 95 (theme 2)!

- The international transport of dangerous goods by road is governed by the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).
- These international rules have been incorporated into Directive 2008/68/EC, transposed into Belgian law by the Royal Decree of 28 June 2009 and made applicable to national transport. Thus the international rules are also in force within Belgium.
