WHAT DOES THIS ATEX EXPLOSION SAFETY TRAINING COVER?
ATEX stands for “Atmosphères Explosives” and refers to two European directives on explosion hazards.
The social directive ATEX 153 (formerly ATEX 137) applies to workplaces where employees work in a potentially explosive environment.

WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY?
In accordance with article I.2-21, the employer provides workers with the necessary training on the prevention measures referred to in this title. (Code, book III, title 3)
The employer ensures that the fire-fighting service has sufficient means to carry out its tasks fully and efficiently (Code, book III, title 3). The employer determines in particular: the specific training required to acquire these competences, taking into account the requirements set out in annex 1:
- The training on intervention in the event of fire includes theoretical and practical elements, including practical exercises in the use of fire protection equipment according to intervention scenarios
- The training on the evacuation of persons present includes theoretical elements and practical exercises relating to evacuation
- Refresher courses relating to this training are organised on a regular basis
The employer provides workers employed in areas where explosive atmospheres may be present with sufficient and appropriate training on protection against the risk of explosion (Code, book III, title 4, annex 2).
