WHAT IS PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE CODE 95?

The European directive on professional competence requires active truck drivers to follow continuing training at an accredited training centre.

WHICH DRIVERS MUST FOLLOW A CONTINUING TRAINING PROGRAMME?

To determine which continuing training a driver must follow, we look at when the driving licence was obtained. Drivers are divided into 4 categories:

Category 1: Licence C obtained before 09/09/2009 or licence D obtained before 09/09/2008
Category 2: Licence C with code 95 obtained between 09/09/2009 and 01/02/2013
Category 3: Licence C with code 95 obtained after 01/02/2013
Category 4: Classic licence C (without professional competence) obtained after 09/09/2009

The continuing training courses for professional competence Code 95 are divided into three themes:

Theme 1: Continuing training in rational driving based on safety regulations
Theme 2: Application of the regulations
Theme 3: Health, road and environmental safety, service and logistics

WHICH CONTINUING TRAINING PROGRAMME MUST THE DRIVER FOLLOW?

This depends on the category to which the driver belongs. The following situations are possible:

I am a driver from categories 1 and 2 and I want to renew the professional competence of my licence C for the first time

  • 35 hours of continuing training
  • 5 courses of 7 hours
  • Continuing training programme freely selectable from the three themes
  • Practical training behind the wheel is not mandatory

I am a driver from category 3 OR I want to renew the professional competence of my licence C for the second time

  • 35 hours of continuing training
  • 5 courses of 7 hours
  • Continuing training programme not freely selectable from the three themes
  • At least 1 course must be chosen from each theme
  • At least 3 hours of practice behind the wheel mandatory

I am a driver from category 4

  • Drivers in this category must register at a driving school to follow theoretical and practical lessons
  • Theoretical and practical exams are taken at an accredited examination centre.
