OPERATING A MOBILE SCAFFOLD

A mobile scaffold is best known as a rolling scaffold. This type of scaffold is used, among others, by window cleaners, in construction or by house and sign painters. Anyone who works at great height has every interest in being well prepared for it. A working at height course is therefore recommended for anyone who, in whatever way, comes into professional contact with a mobile or rolling scaffold.

This working at height training is aimed not only at the workers who stand on the mobile scaffold themselves, but also at the employees who have the responsibility to assemble the scaffold. It is clear that the safety aspect cannot be emphasised enough here. The person responsible for the works as well as the competent person present on the site are also invited to follow the working at height training at practice centre Normec Praxis.

WORKING AT HEIGHT TRAINING

A working at height training consists of various parts. You of course know that working with the mobile scaffold can involve dangers. During the working at height course this aspect is addressed in particular. A working at height training means recognising dangers, assessing what is safe and what is not, and acting accurately to prevent accidents.

The working at height training meets all the requirements of the RD of 2005 concerning the use of work equipment for temporary work at height. After following the working at height training you are provided with a recognised working at height certificate.

WORKING AT HEIGHT CERTIFICATE

The working at height certificate guarantees that you are able to work safely with a mobile scaffold. Moreover, after following the working at height course you are not only in possession of a working at height certificate, but you can also assemble a mobile scaffold. When working on a site, the working at height certificate also gives you the right to call yourself a competent person and to act as such.

This training is aimed both at employees who use, assemble the mobile scaffold or act as competent person for the mobile scaffold.

You learn to recognise all possible dangers of the mobile scaffold, assess them and then act appropriately.

The training covers all the requirements of the RD of 2005 concerning the use of work equipment for temporary work at height.

You learn not only to safely use a mobile scaffold, after this training you also assemble it in practice and you may even act as competent person.

USER

“The employer who employs workers who will work on a scaffold ensures that these workers receive training that enables them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of their tasks. This training relates in particular to:

ASSEMBLER

“The employer who employs workers who will take part in the assembly, dismantling or conversion of a scaffold ensures that these workers receive training that enables them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of their tasks. This training relates in particular to:

• the understanding of the assembly, dismantling or conversion diagram of the scaffold concerned
• the safe assembly, dismantling or conversion of the scaffold concerned
• the measures referred to in § 1, second paragraph
• any other risk that the assembly, dismantling or conversion work may entail.”

“Only workers who have acquired the aforementioned knowledge and skills may work on a scaffold or take part in its assembly, dismantling or conversion.”

COMPETENT PERSON

“The employer who uses the scaffold appoints a person, hereinafter referred to as the competent person, who has acquired, through training the required knowledge for carrying out the following tasks:

• overseeing the application of the prevention measures for the risks of persons or objects falling;
• overseeing the application of the safety measures in the event of changing weather conditions that could compromise the safety of the scaffold concerned;
• overseeing compliance with the conditions regarding permissible load;
• carrying out the inspections required to comply with the provisions of article 17.” (Codex book IV, title 5)
